Many of the books on our reading list at the Academy of Inkster are on the National Banned Books List. Use the link to the site provided to find a banned book that you have read as a student at the Academy of Inkster. In your response, tell what banned book you read and describe what experience or lesson expressed in the book was personally valuable to you.

The book I read was To Kill a Mockingbird and to me it shouldn't have been banned. During my learning experienced based on this book was good. It showed how African Americans were treated by others and the use of the "N" word was used. I think banning this book from schools is limiting some children to what went on and still going on in some parts of the world. The only reason why this book was on here was because the issue of rasicm, profanity, and the idea of rape and some parents didn't want their child reading this book. I chose To Kill a Mockingbird because to me it wasn't that bad and you learned more about what some African Americans experienced during this time.
I read Bless Me Ultima it showed that good overcomes evil and if we had not read that book we might not have learned that lesson. It was a coming of age book. It showed how a young boy grew up at a early age and faced trials.
A book I read at the Academy of Inkster is The Canterbury Tales. The Canterbury Tales tells how men viewed women in those times. Women were saw as evil, wicked and very sexual. This book helped me understand how men view women and why men and women have problems today.
I read a couple of books as a student at the academy of inkster that are on the banned list. I have read Bless Me Ultima, I know why the caged bird sings, beloved, scary stories, and Huckleberry Finn. I really do not feel that any of these should be on that list. I learned something from every one of these books that I feel everyone should learn. In Bless me Ultima, i learned that evil does exist. I really do not remember I know why the caged bird sings. In Beloved i learned about the power love has on people. In scary stories i just got alot of entertainment. In Hucleberry Finn I learned that even when racism was around, good people can prosper.

The Banned Book that I read at the Academy of Inkster was I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. The lesson that they teach is that the world is not policially correct. It gives you an understanding how serious racism was and how it was to grow up not being able to read, also growing up poor. What was offensive in this book was when the main character, Margurite lost her viriginity while play house in a tent. I do not find this book offensive because that was the life of African-Americans at that time. If this book was written in this day and age with the same content, I might be offended because that is not the life for the greater half of African-Americans.
A book that I read last year was banned the book is called Bless me Ultima. This book took place in Mexico it was about a boy named Tony and a very respected old woman named Ultima, this book told about the trials that Tony had to expirience. The important lesson of this story was evil can never prevail it will eventually be punished.
The only book i have read on this list is Bless Me Ultima. Bless Me Ultima is a very good book. It teach you that good all ways come over comes evil. And it also taught us the history of the coming of age. If we did not read this book a lot of students would have not learn about the coming of age. There is a lot of books that should not be on this list. I know one book that should and that is the Crucible. The Crucible had sex, religious point of views, and curse words in it. I do not believe they really sat down and thought about the books that should be on this list.
Bless Me Ultima. Bless Me Ultima book was a great book to me. I feel that Bless Me Ultima didn't have anything to unaproiprate for school. Bless Me Ultima,in my opinion is a normal book for any high school in the state. I feel that Bless Me Ultima shouldn't be banned because it wasn't as exclusive as any other book teachers use in high school.

I read The color purple, mice of men,and Harry Potter and I dont find any of these books to be offensive. If these books are banned than The Crucible, and Hamlet should be on the list too. These books helps broaden horizons and lets kids read genres of books other than the same old genre of books we already read.
the book that i read that was banned is huckle berry finn.i feel that the book should've'nt been banned. i enjoyed reading that book.i liked how huckle berry went on alot of adventurres.i like going places and seeing new things.i feel there were some things that shouldnt been in the book, such as the cursing and the racism.that probably offended people, but i think high school students should be able to understand and be mature about it.
The only book that I read on the national banned book list is Bless Me Ultima. Bless Me Ultima taught a very good lesson on the coming of age theme. It showed different religious views. The book itself was very cultured. Bless Me Ultima in general was a very educational book.
