Mrs. Atkinson's New Car

Read this article:

http://www.greencar.com/features/toyota-iq-aims-at-smart-fortwo/

I am considering buying a new car. Fuel economy and safety are the most important factors I consider when selecting a vehicle. I currently drive a Toyota Matrix, a small crossover vehicle. This vehicle gets about 35 miles to the gallon highway and is quite roomy. As gas prices go up, I am starting to see the IQ Smart vehicle on the road. If I continue to drive 70 mile a day, this vehicle may be a good choice. The IQ is tiny, but has many safety features. However, it is not a good "Mom" car because it has limited seating. I also am a Therapy dog handler. Is it safe for Tank (My dog) to ride in the front seat? In 2010, Toyota will produce a hybrid Matrix. However, the fuel efficiency of a hybrid does not start until after 40 miles of driving. It is only 35 miles to work, so the electric engine would never get a chance to start. The IQ would give me more fuel efficiency than a hybrid. Should I purchase an IQ and possibly sacrifice safety and comfort for fuel efficiency? Give me good reasons in your answer.

If it were me, as bad as the economic situation is especially with gas prices, I would have to sacrifice saftey and comfort and go with a car with a better fuel effeciency. Now, I am not saying that accidents can't and will not happen, but if you are confident that you are a safe driver and you are a good driver, saftey should not be the worst of your worries. Gas prices are slowly trying to creep back down but we can't count our chickens before they hatch. Who knows, gas may go back up another 60 cents before this month is over. We might just have to bend our safety rules just this once.

No i wouldn't if I were you, because the economy is so bad I it's not getting any better. And even though the price of gas is going down it can always go back up. And buying a brand new car could also make your taxes go up. And with this nations econmy crisis in my opinion i think we should all car pool or walk to our destinations if there in our area.

I would have to say it may be a good choice. But to face the reality, "fuel efficient" or not the gas prices will still go high and gas will still burn. But on the other hand, why not save money for the new cars that may be released sometime next year or 2 years from now? I heard that they are issuing cars soon that run on gases or even water. I also believe I saw on the news when those cars are finally released they are going to ban and hopefully try and get rid of our modern cars today and convince people to buy those new cars. Its just what I heard. But in my opinion a car is a car...and the gas will still be expensive either way.

I feel you should go for the IQ car, fuel efficiency is key right now. Plus buying a brand new car is going to cost a lot of money. So buy and IQ save some money, and put it in your pocket.

Destiny,

Car payments are part of my monthly budget. This is not an expensive car. With the gas savings, I will actually be $200-$300 ahead of where I am now.

I agree with Brit, I say that because of the economy you should go with a more fuel efficent car, because the gas prices with always go up again eventually so you should get a car that you can depend on for that. Plus car's with alternate fuel can have problems and mess up on. I say go with a car you know will work.

I personally agree with Britnie's response to this blog. I would definitely o with the better fuel efficient car and risk my safety. As Britnie stated, accidents may and will happen, but those are the sacrifices that must be made in order to save money on gas. With gas prices rising, I'd rather be fuel effecient than safe...

I would have to agree with Destiny. I agree because the economy is still getting worse. The only thing that may change these affects is out new president chosen soon and if they would like to change our economy for the better or worse. Hopefully our economy will get better but it's like I said a car is just a car either way and gas will still burn and you'll still have to pay. I don't think theres a good reason to get a new car so soon.

Even though The gas prices are going back down I think that you should make the good sacrifice and get a more fuel efficent car. And the reports haven't shown that that many accidents have happened. But just to be on the same side, if you are going to get a fuel efficient car do the research on it.

Seeing as you are a good driver i say you worry more about a more fuel efficient car and not so much saftey of comfort. The economy is so bad to the point that you can not take the low prices of gas now for granted. They can raise them just as fast hence you need a car with better fuel efficiency.

The way things are looking for our economy today, i believe that if we all hold on just a little while longer then she wouldn't have to sacrifice anything. Gas prices are going down every week and if we the people make the right choice and vote then the world will be changed for the better pretty soon.

I honestly believe this is not a ise descison in my ipinion. One reason being because its not a safe vehicle, its looks like if you were in an accident it look like the car would total it's self, which could indanger yourself, and your family. Also you have to take into consideration that we live in Michigan, were we have winter, I don't believe the smart car could handle Michigans weather, its too low to the ground and it just does not seem as if it were made for winter driving, maybe if you lived far west, or in the south it would work.

I believe you should not buy the IQ. It is a good gas saver but the matrix is more safe, and more reliable. The IQ is very small and if you get into an accident it might cause major damage. The matrix is the way to go mrs. atkinson, on the safe side.

i really think you should stick to to safe car, because gas is not worth anyones life. if it begings to get that serious than you need to ride the bus.

As bad as the economy is it would not be smart to purchase a car of any sort at this time. If you are it is a very smart decision it may notlook okay but you are saving money and in the long run you will notice the savings.

No it would not be smart of you to purchase a new car. Although gas is down, it doesnt mean that it will stay down forever. It is destined to go back. I f you buy a new car you taxes will go up, and you will have car note!!

A.Kennedy said...

I agree wih Destiny, gasa prices will go back up so buying a new car would not be the smartest thing to do.

I feel you should keep your car because gas has went down. Cars are very expensive to just purchase. You should keep your car because it incomidates your family and your dog
