Crisis Leads to Theft
Macomb Township is a community to the north of where I live. The homes are huge. This community grew rapidly during the last housing frenzy. I noticed most of the people who built homes there work in the manufacturing industry. In my opinion, people who live out that way live too "high on the hog" for what they do for a living (sort of like the guilds men in Canterbury Tales). Now, many are facing foreclosure on these homes because they lost their manufacturing jobs. One couple from this community decided to get some money in a very creative way and got caught. This couple was stealing expensive Dyson vacuum cleaners and selling them on EBay. The Kohl's at Macomb Mall, Home Depot at 13 and Little Mack, and KMart at Gratiot and Frazho were hardest hit by this couple. This couple was on security camera tape at all three of these stores walking out with these vacuums. All of these stores were in my community. The Kohl's by Lakeside and Sur La Table at Partridge Creek (These stores also carry these vacuums and are closer to Macomb Township) were not targeted by this couple. The couple made $24, 000 before getting caught. Do you believe we will see more incidents like this as the economy worsens? Be sure to explain why in your answer.

Yes I would believe so because it is hard to find jobs now these days if you lose the good or decent one you already had. People result to many things just to get by now these days and it's not very surprising. You see people stealing more and more on the news now and even killings and kidnappings for people to try and get what they want. Some people I don't think they mean't harm but they just wanted to get by, but others that do it purposely on the other hand deserves more than just being charged with a fee for stealing, they should be in jail. Well~ thats my opinion anyways.
Honestly as bad as it is to say, i do believe that we will see alot more situations like this as the economy worsens.People will begin to get extremely desperate and feel as if they have no other choice but to steal. We need something done and fast.
I do believe that we will see more of this kind of criminal activity as the economic situation worsens. I believe that it could possibly become worse than just this little situation. It may become so much worse to the point where people may stop breaking in at night when no one is there, to where they are just walking in during normal store hours and take things right out of the store without a thought. They may go from taking items to sell for money, to taking things that they need to live off of. This is only a starting point for criminals.
Yes I do believe that if the economy worsens, we will see more incidents like that. Because more people would start losing money and think that stealing is okay. And that is why the government should lower prices so that people won't have to steal.
I agree with Shareka when she says that it will get worse but as Ashly also reinstated before, "People have been stealing before the economy went bad".... She is very much so correct. We might as well but face it but people are going to stealing a lot more and the crime rate will increase drastically...
Yes because as the economy gets worse people will get more deperate for a means to survive, and most people will resort to stealng.
I agree with Britnie this situation is going to get worse. Some people will go to the extremes when things for them get hard. Who knows whats going to happen.
Unfortunately, as the economy gets worse people will resort to the lowest low. America will become very desperate as things get worse. Since it is so hard to find a job people can't afford the life style that they are used to. The economic crisis is causing everyone to loose their since of judgement. Until the economy gets better, the crime rate will remain high.
I am commenting on Courtney's blog and I do agree with what she is saying about she is talking about. And that is something that needs to be stopped.
I agree with Courtney our economy is getting worse and as each day passes the pase quickens. Sttealing seems to be the only thing left for those who struggle the hardest to do. Its only a matter of time before this world gets turned inside out!!!
Yes I do believe we will see more of these bad decisions, by desperate people. I myself have seen stuff like this happen, while working in retail. I also heard of a recent incident were a group of men ripped a ATM machine out of the banks wall. So yes we will see more crimes, as time goes on, and the economy worsens.
Yes I do believe you will see incidents similar to the ones related to the couple in the story. I say this because this isnt something new to me. Where I stay people are not the wealthiest and struggle just to get by.When you are at the bottom sometimes people do not think of thier consequences just the reward. Now that our economy is in a recession and in dire NEED of CHANGE. All we can really do is just sit back and watch.
I totally agree with Audra. Just when a wife divorces her husband she wants to maintain the lifestyle that they once had before, with that being said people will want to maintain the lifestyle they once had. So they are going to do abnormal things to maintain the life they once knew. Very well said Audra!!!!!
I agree with what destiny said. with the way that the economy is right now i do believe that people will start staling believing that it is ok in the long run. They will start to feel that "hey the government is stealing from us why not steal from them?".
As times get harder we should get ready to see this more often. When you steal it is not meant for you to have it but since times are hard you don't think of the consequences all you think of is providing for my family.
Yes, as time goes on the the economy worsens and peoples economic situations become worse, we are going to see more petty crimes happening, especially from the people who are so used to having money.
I agree with Shareka it is going to get worse becasue is hard for people to find jobs because no one is hiring. This will cause people to start stealing, cheating, and even on some levels killing.
I believe if you cant afford something you shouldnt spend money on it. If your planning on living the good life and in yojur plans getting a house built is the number one priority, make sure you'll have money to fall back on before you make the transaction. And if they were in foreclosure why not just sell the house instead of stealing vacuum cleaners? i fell the whole thing was pointless.
Yes its going to get worse because there's no jobs. Almost everyone is getting laid off. Some people are stubborn and won't get up and look for a job they may just take the easy way out. Another reason is because people need they bills paid and they are going to them by any means necessary
