Home Comming
In my community, homecoming is an extra big deal this year. The City of Roseville is also celebrating its 50th anniversary on this day. The homecoming theme is Roseville History. The Parade will include floats constructed by the high school students representing historical landmarks. It is also an all day event with a pancake breakfast, parade, football game, and two separate dances. One dance is for high school students and the other dance is for adults. Of course my daughter Kim is involved in all of the festivities. She had to have special apparel for school this week, a costume for the parade, a dress and shoes for the dance, and money for pictures and dinner at National Coney Island after the dance. This is Macomb County. There are no jobs for young people in this area and Kim is stretching the household budget. The last person Kim babysat for did not pay her. My husband's solution to the problem was to have Kim do chores for the money. This is not helping the situation because the money is still coming from family funds. Propose a solution to this problem.

I think that the best solution to your daughters problem and your problem is to have her babysit more. And to make sure that she checks behind her clients, to insure that they are going to pay her. And if she does do extra chores at home, I think that she should at least get paid for it.
Well frankly and honestly it's not much of my own problem about money budgeting I would believe you'd have it lucky from your stand point. I live with 5 different people imagine how that is with no jobs. Well anyways I would say in my own opinion is to actually get her a small job though it may not pay much but a weekend job or part-time job. There are many fast food places hiring so it shouldn't be hard for her to work in a place like that. I wouldn't worry to much, because your problems will solve out itself through time.
I say you apply her for a job outside of your community, and have her pay you back after homecoming week. That way she can still get everything she wants and you get your money back.
I believe the best way to solve the family budget issues is to have her get a job outside of Macomb County, especially with gas prices coming down. Although it would be a drive, it would help since she is not going into the family funds, and at the same time she will have her own income, and in the process she will learn some responsibilities.
I say you have your daughter go searching for more baby sitting jobs.have the people pay her before the fact that way you can assure her the money.
I think a very good solution to this problem is to plan out your situation before you start. If you know that we are headed towards an economic depression, you should aim your target towards people who are still considered to be in upper-middle class and so on up. Perform jobs that are supply and demand. If it is fall, and you know people work all day and can't get to their yard work, do it for them and charge them a reasonable price. Something like that may help.
Honestly, this doesn't really seem to be much of my concern. I cannot help advise her with getting work, when it's unfortunate that I cannot even become hired at a job. Maybe if she does chores, she can get an allowance, or babysitting or going to places that are looking for teens to be in their facility. My mother is the only one tha works so therefore of course I'm going to have to deal with something like this until I get a job.
This is a real delima! I understand that there aren't any jobs for young people and that would have been my solution to this problem, yet this cannot be the solution. I think Kim should think long and hard about what her best talent or quality is and sale it! For example my best talent i believe is braiding, so i advertise my styles so that i could make money wen i most need it.
I agree with Sarah completely. You need to have your daughter apply for a job outside of the community and have her pay you back that way it will benifit you both.
In my opinion you shouldn't even complain. Children are expensive and you new that when you had her. And since she cant get another job maybe you should get another job. Or work extra hours. Just think of it in a good way. She almost out of school anyways.
Shareka,
In Macomb county we have many auto worker who lost their jobs. These people are unskilled people, who before the current economic crisis made more money than I do with a Masters degree. These are the people that are currently taking all the fast food jobs in my area. The teens are not getting these jobs.
Sarah,
How is my daughter going to get to her job out of the area on a level 1 driver's liscense? I don't get home until 5-6 pm and we also do not have buses where I live.
Kelby,
Same comment for you I had for Sarah. I have to work outside the county myself. Most people that have jobs where I live drive to the other side of town. She could get a job at Summerset Mall or out this way, but how is she going to get there?
Britney,
Be sure your answer is relates to the question.
I am commenting on Courtney's blog response. I agree with what she is saying. She should have her price ready when she goes to them and if they can not afford it, she shopuld continue on. Make blogs a little more thought out Courtney!!
I agree with both destiny and kelby. she should be asured that she is goin to be paid for her services. and then at the same time she should go searching outside of the normal areas. That is if she needs the money just that bad!
I am agreeing with Sarah's blog and I do think that she should get an job outside of just babysitting. And go in her community to find work elsewhere.
The solution for this problem is to learn how not to trust everyone because lets face the facts not everyone has money. Also babysit for upper and middle class citizens that way you know there is a better possibility that you will get paid.
I agree with Jelicia if you have the price already set then there shouldn't any questions asked.
I think that your daughter should find new clients to babysit, and be sure to tell them upfront how much she is going to charge, and require them to pay her half when the child gets there and the rest when the child isd picked up.
I diagree wiht Kelby because in opinion gas prices are not going to be this low always. As time passes gas prices are going to get even higher than they were before.SO no it is not the most responsible solution to get a job outside Macomb county
I believe the best solution for this is to let kim do the work around the house for the money. And its more things to do for money, such as babysitting, cutting your neighbors lawn, selling snacks or bake goods, etc. You could also leave from out of macomb country and take to westland or anywhere to look for a job. Its her highschool years it time to take some responsibilty and some money on your own.
