Read the link, "National Banned Book Week" and respond the following:

Some English teachers and librarians feel that there are books with certain themes and content that should be banned from the classroom. Others feel that taking away a student's right to read certain books deprive students the experience of reading great works of literature. In your opinion, should books with objectionable content be banned from classrooms and school libraries. Support your answer with information from the Link and your opinions. Do a good job because I will look at these later and post comments.

I think they shouldn't ban books with objectable content because it could help you understand things. Outside of school you come in contact with disturbing content so reading a book with those type of themes shouldn't be a problem. I could understand if the book was explicit and had adult content. It's a book for school not a random book. Limiting what is read does hold back students from so mmany things that could be learned just from reading. If i t's in the school library or a teachers classroom why can't students read them.? They not there just for show.

I feel that they should not bann books with suggest content because it will help the students prepare for the real world. When you leave school, you come in contact with many abnormal things, reading about them in books is not making it any more worse. Reading a book with suggest and adult content is also not a problem because in todays' society, you see that whenever you turn on your television. Taking a students' right to read all different types literature should not be done. Limiting a what a student reads hold back them back from many thingd that they can learn by just reading. Taking this right from students, is not going to help them succeed in life.

I disagree with the banning of certain books the reason why is because students don't read enough as it is if schools and libraries ban books students are interested in there would be less students reading.

In my opinion, I think books shouldn't be banded because there are many things you can learn alot of things and experiences from just one book. I think other themes from other books that wouldn't be appropriate for school should be in any school and classroom because teachers want students to learn and experience more responsibility and more things out there in life. So I feel that all types of books should be used in school, just so we can think ahead more than we are in school.

I believe books with objectable content shouldn't be banned. The most important thing is that the students read. Reading helps build vocabulary and improve writing skills. If books with objectable content gets students to read then it's a good thing. Students are faced with the same type of content everyday on tv and in real life. So there is no difference if they read it in school. Objectable books should not be banned.

I really dont think they should banned books that are like that because as long as the child is reading why does it matter. Plus books like that tells real life situations even though they are not all good situations they still teach the child. It makes the child understand right from wrong so that they will not end up in the same situation.

teresa,

i totally argee with you i believe that books shouldnt be banned because their is alot of things in book, and you can learn alot from them.i think that even if the books are not appropiate for school they should see how the students behave about it and if they cant handle it they shouldnt continue on with the book.

dekeisha,
I strongly agree with you. I think it is unneccessary to ban certain books because certain people disagree with the topics. The only thing that does is keep the students blind-sighted about what is really going on in the world. I feel that students should be able to choose on their own whether certain topics are inappropriate or not.

Audra- I agree with you. I think the books shouldnt be banned. The books help the students with variety and helps them understand life more. It can help them indentify with their peers or employees.

I agree with Tarik. I believe that books shouldn't be banned due to suggestive themes. Some of those books are dealing with times of maturity. If students were able to read those books they would be able to deal with their own personal problems. It is also great that they allow a week where those books can be read. I also believe that it should be increased from a week. I believe they should totally take the restrictions on those books. Literture should be explored on all levels. Not just on school appropiate zones.
