Junior Response

Please respond to the following in good essay format following the requirements of ACT for writing as taught in class:

Topic: Mrs. Atkinson's Pot Hole Issue

On Friday, I hit a large pot hole on the Southfield Freeway. I flattened a tire and knocked my car out of alignment. The damage to my car cost me about $200.00 to repair. I have noticed that there are many more pot holes this year than there have been in previous years. This is probably due to the fact that the State of Michigan does not have the funds to fix the pot holes. I feel that the state should be responsible for maintaining the roads. If the state does not maintain its roads, then it should be responsible for vehicle damage due to poorly maintained roads. In your opinion, is the State of Michigan responsible for the pot hole and the damage to my car? Take a stand and defend it with well thought out reasons. Answer directly into Blogger. You have the entire period to work on this. If you finish early, go to the Michigan Electronic Library and complete some ACT Practice.

No, I do not belive that it is the state of Michigan's fault for pot holes in the streets. Michigan is trying to get more money for reasons like pot holes. The state Michigan is going throught it's worst in the economy.

If pot holes is a problem for drivers, then they should watch out for them while driving. It is no one fault but their own if they drive into a pot hole. Maybe some drivers are not experienced enough to drive around in the state of Michigan.

People can not just depend on everything to go as they want. The state of Michigan is going through enough, with taxes getting higher and higher. Also gas prices did go down at first then, it went back up. Let's not forget that we still have troops over in iraq. The State of Michigan has bigger things on their plate right now than stupid pot holes.

In conclusion, even though the state of Michigan has bigger plans, they could try to fix the pot holes in main areas in Michigan. But still Michigan is trying to make money for more schools, and more job openings.

In my own personal experience I too have been a victim of pot hole incidents and I agee with you when you say that the state of Michigan should have funds to fix the pot hole issue. I feel that if the state of Michigan fixes the pot holes it will cause less accidents on the freeways, save the citizens of Michigan money, and save the state of Michigan money.
If the potholes on the freeway are fixed it would cause less accidents because people would constantly have to dodge potholes and run into in other while trying to dodge the holes. It would save the people time with trying to either fix their car or buy another depending on how bad the damage is. The people would be happier in knowing that they can go on the freeway and not have to get stuck in a pothole or damage their car while trying to dodge one.The freeway would look much better and be a whole lot safer.
The citizens would save money. If the potholes are fixed then the citizens would have to money to do as they pleased instead of buying or fixing their car. The citizens would be alot more safe and secure. they wouldnt have to worry about if they will get stuck in a pothole or if they drive over a pothole will cause damage to their car. It would save them extra money and time.
The state would also benefita nd save extra money too if the potholes in the freeway are fixed. The state wouldnt have to keep paying for temporarily fixes to the problem if they pay the cause and get a permanent fix for the potholes. The state would then have more money to do other stuff like build more buildings or pay off debt theat the state be in.They also would stop the complaints from citizens asking if and when they are going to fix the potholes.
If the potholes are fixed then everyone woulsd benefit from it. the citizens as well as the state would save money and everyone can breathe a little easier. The complaints from the citizens would stop and the excuses from the stae would stop.In the end everyine would be a whole lot happier.

Yes, I do think the state of michigan is resposible for the damage of your car. They are resposible for all the streets so they are resposible for the damage it causes. Even though you can just move out the way, you shouldn't have to go out of your way for something that should not be broken.
As much as the city charges the people in michigan(taxes, tickets,...) they should have to pay for their mistakes as well. It is not our fault that there are pot holes in the road, so to make us pay for it is unfair.
Altough, i do believe that it is the states fault for the pot hole being there, it is also the drivers fault for not noticing it. I'm sure in drivers ed they say to pay attention to the road. That would mean paying attention to pot holes as well. It isn't all the states fault for you driving in the pot hole, but it is their fault for the pot hole being there.
If I were the driver i would want the state to pay for my damage as well. I see it as me getting my money back from what i pay them(taxes, insurance,...). I dont like being messed up by others things jus as much as i like repaying people, but if i were to break someones stuff I would pay them with out hesitation. I see it as the state should does the same. They should have said they would pay you back as soon as you filed the report.
Overall, im saying that you should not have to pay for the damage. I do think it is part your fault for driving into the pit hole, but it is the cities fault for not fixing the hole. they need to keep the streets clean and safe so accidents won't happen. This is there fault and not yours, and they should have to pay for the damage.

I feel that the state of Michigan is responsible for damage to the car. There are far too many pot holes in this city alone. The knows this and fails do to anything about it. The state of Michigan is responsible for fixing the car because the state has neglected their duties, its dangerous, and they collect taxes to get complete such tasks.
The state of Michigan is responsible for fixing the pot hole because they have neglected their duties. As a government official you have certain duties that you have fufill. These duties include providing a good education, make the environment sfae and fixing highways and roads. If the city isn't fufilling their tasks then they are slacking off on the job.
Letting the pot holes exist for a long time can be vey dangerous. Pot holes only get worse with with time. For example the pot hole you hit may have not been that bad at first. Since it was left untreated the pot hole grew and grew. Hitting pot holes can cause damage to your car and more importantly they can cause you to have a car accident.
The state of Michigan is responsible for fixing the road beacuse they take taxes from the citizens of Michigan. Taxes are suppose to be used to better the city and state. If the state poorly balances their budget it is still their responsibility to take care of the people.
It is the state of Michigans responsibilty to take care of the roads. No one else should be held accountable for the city's laziness. The state is supposed to take care of our roads, education, and safety. The city should pay the costs to get the roads and the car fixed.

The damages done to your car in my opinion is the fault of the state of michigan due to the pot hole on the southfield freeway. The state of michigan is responsible. ITs the states responsiblity to take care of the streets. The citizens have a right to drive on a nice smooth paved road.
Pot holes in streets as soon as possible should be repaired as one occurs for the safety of drivers on the road. Pot holes can cause major damage to your car, injure you possibly or cause a car accident. When you are tryin to prevent hitting a pot hole you try to dodge it which may also cause a accident to occur. Dodging a pot or shall I say when trying to dodge a pot hole your are in a panicing state. You are tryin to protct yourself and passengers from any accidents.
In case of a driver driving and hiiting a pot hole in the process an damaging there or anyone elses car, the blame should be on the state. The state should already have repaired the street or should have been in the process of trying to repair the imperfection in the road. Cars are not made to dodge pot holes therefore the streets should'nt have them. The state should be more on the job to protect the citizens by removing the imperfection for safety first.
So any damages due to imperfections in specific pot holes in the road should be coverd by the state. In concluding I feel the damages done to your car by the pot hole should be fault to the state of michigan.

I feel that it is the states responsibility to maintain the streets, because its not our fault if our car gets messed up.The pot holes in the street are very dangerous. Many people that try to dodge the pot holes get in to accidents or even worse get killed by one little pot hole. All that can be avoided if the state would fix it.Another reason is why pay taxes if the money is not use for the states need, I feel for something to be done something very bad has to happen first. If people started too take a stand things will change, also people should sew the state when bad things happen because of things the state would'nt take time out to do it.If the pot holes were fixed there would probaly be less accidents and the death rate will go down, but thats my stand its the states fualt it couldnt be any one else problem cause its there job.

yes i think that michigan should pay for the damages of the car and should take care of their city but its not intirely michigans fault. Michigan has unexpected finacial problen=sms that cant be helped.Witheh the big three runnig out of buissnes jobs r running scares. That really puts a strain on the community. PLus we have the pressure of the war that puts preesur on the state. It could also be a possilblit that we are confronting the wrong people about this problem. its true that Michigan is responsible for all the damages to the state and what the state does to the citzens. The alternative would be to raise a funraiser a diffrent type of furaizer that could beniffit the city . Maybe a golf tournament or a babaque funraiser to help out the comunitty.

Due to my experience I believe that the damage of the vehicles is the State's of Michigan fault. It was recently said in the news that potholes are caused water and snow. Snow left on the ground too long is effecting the tart. Then the snow eventually makes the tart go away which melts downs the to potholes.

When people take the changes of driving over a pothole, that's when it becomes their faults because they decide not to drive around it. If they just drive around it then the State of Michigan would have less pothole accidents. I feel that mainly it's also dealing with the fact that it is a lot of crazy drivers on these streets.

It's not just the drivers fault for driving crazy, it's also the State's fault too. Reason being is because they don't clean up the streets when they are suppose to. Then they end up making the tax payers pay for what they have to do. When the tax payers pay, the city workers still doesn't do their work.

In conclusion to this I blame all damaged vehicles on the city. I blame them because they don't take care of their jobs when they are suppose to.
