Understanding: Seniors Only

I need each senior to research the Academic Honesty policy (Plagiarism) at the university or college that hey wish to attend in the fall. What constitutes plagiarism? What will happen to you if you do this in college? What can you do as a student to prevent dealing with the consequences? Please post your answer in a good paragraph.

Cheating constitutes plagiarism at any college, university, or school. If you cheat in college you will probably get kicked out or asked to re-do the assignment depending on if your teacher is nice or not. What I can do as a student to prevent this from happening is just not cheating at all, and just to study.

At Wayne State University the Honest Policy is considered extremely wrong. At WSU if you are a student and you have noticed, watched or even heard of another student has plagirised o 1 or more things, you must keep the integrity of your school and report it. Ay WSU it is your responsibility to not only to your school but to yourself as well to keep your integrity and it is your duty to fgamiliarise yourself with the consequences of academic dishonesty. Cheating at WSU is defined as any act of intentionally using or attempting to use, or intentionally providing or attempting to provide, unauthorized materials, information or assistance in any academic exercise. This means that depending on the severity of your crime, you could be placed on probation or either expelled at WSU.

I would believe that the college I am planning to attend when I move to California in the year 2009 has a tense rule on plagiarism. Plagiarism is a big issue in every state and in every college and can result in kicking out a student or even be involved in the law depending how bad it is. Some colleges may be a bit more generous and gives students a warning if the plagiarism isn't that bad on a certain assignment, but some students aren't as fortunate to get away with just a simple warning and small punishment.

Western Michigan University is the school in which I would Like to attend. WMU Defines Plagiarism as "Definition: Plagiarism is intentionally, knowingly, or carelessly presenting the work of another as one's own (i.e., without proper acknowledgement of the source). The sole exception to the requirement of acknowledging sources is when the ideas, information, etc. are common knowledge.
Instructors should provide clarification about the nature of plagiarism". If you are caught writing a plagiarized paper you are to be wrote up and sent to the Office of Student Conduct. As a student I will continue to write college level papers, with good research, and study habits.

The college I want to says that the Plaiarism will be delt with and depending on the severity you will be punished according. And in severe cases you will be dismissed from the colege.

It basically depends on the administrtor. They may fail the course.

When you plagerize someone else's work at any college, it results you in being expelled from that campus and failing your classes. Some colleges take bigger measures and you may be arrested. To prevent any of these kinds of actions just do what is right in the first place. It is just as easy to do the right thing as it is to do the wrong thing. Do YOUR work and not anyone else's.

I am commenting on Shanaye's blog post she posted a blog to the school that I'm going to, which is Wayne State University. I feel that Shanaye hit all the key points on plagiarism.

SaraH said...

The particular policy is that plagerism is not allowed. Whether is be with papers, artwork, or anything else plagerism is not allowed. And the punishment is that you will be kicked out of the school.

What constitues cheating at Wayne State is looking at another students paper or using the same answers. That is what constitues cheating. And they also put you on a probation for cheating. Plagiarism is defined as presenting someone else's work at the cost of getting caught.

Destiny,

Well Destiny, I believe Mrs. Atkinson wanted us to specify on the questions. Honestly if i wanted to attend the University that you are going to attend, which I don't know because you did not say so (are you going to college?) I would not come to seek advice about the policy, because you obviously don’t know yourself.

I would like to attend Florida A&M. At this particular college their code of conduct states that if a person(s) is caught cheaing in any which way including PLAGIARISM, depending on the degree of damage will either be put on probation, suspended, or in the last and biggest case they will be expelled!

Copying something as far as your work or a paper is considered to be plagiarism. At Wayne State they have a zero tollerance when it comes to plagiarism. All you have to do to prevent facing the consequences of plagerism is study hard and have faith in yourself to know that you can do it on your own.

I agree with what Shanaye' said. Wayne State Universuty has a very strict policy when it comes to plagiarism. The way i feel personaly is, it takes just as much time to find the article that you want to plagiarize as it does to think of something to write yourself. Why even take the chance of geting caught?

I am commenting on Courtney's respons. I agree with what she is saying. All you have to do is do your own work and study as hars as you can and plagerism should not even cross your mind.

I agree with Britnie about the plagiargism issue. You can get severely punished for such things such as copying someone else's work as she said. Her statement backs up her reasons which is why I agree with her. Plagiarism is wrong and I believe it should be handled in a punishing way, but the punishment level would depend on how much, and how many times the person did it.

SaraH said...

I agree woth Courtney and Britnie if you work hard and do your work properly Plagerism shouldn't cross your mind. Just do your work.

I plan on attending Schoolcraft College and there definition of plagarism is the deliberate attempt to deceive the reader through the appropriation and representation as one's own the work and words of others. People who do this will be disciplined including expulsion from the College.

Ryan Davis said...

I agree with Jelicia. Our colleges have a similar Honest Policy and is disciplines students in many of the same ways Schoolcraft does.

Joffy Josh said...

The student will fail the course and be kicked out of that particular course

Joffy Josh said...

Destiny,

I feel the same way as u do, just study and dont do no cheating

The school that I plan on attending is a communty college then getting my transcript transferred to Wayne State both of these schools will not accept cheating of any kind it will result in being expelled out of the school.

I agree with Britnie plagiarism is an issue because it is the easy way but can cost you an education. And I believe that if you are doing something that can jeperdize your education I wouldn't even think about doing it.
