Kim "Guest Blogger": Halloween, My Mom's Style
Since I was in the 8th grade, my mother has been telling me this is the last year I can trick-or-treat. Every year I trick-or-treat with a friend, my mother knows that I go but she doesn't approve. She feels that after junior high you should no longer trick-or-treat, that you're "too old." When high school students come by our house for Halloween, she always puts a packet of Taco Bell sauce (she collects them all year special for the high school students. Nice isn't she?), a pencil (because she hates it when kids come to class without one the day after Halloween), and a little pack mints with ACT test prep questions on the back(one of my personal favorites)into their trick-or-treat bags. Get this! She gives the little kids full packages of M&M's or real good chocolate candy shaped as creepy eyeballs. Last year, she gave me and my friends those "yummy" mints. She embarrasses me further by putting a costume on the dog. She even takes the dog trick-or-treating to neighbors that she knows. Yet she says that I'm too old to trick-or-treat. I am 4ft 9inches tall so I can get away with trick-or-treating because without make-up and a loose costume, I look like I'm 12. I plan to trick-or-treat in college, I mean wouldn't you if you could pull it off? What do you think of my mother's view of trick-or-treating? Should it stop after middle school? Or should you be able to go as long as you want to? (Also convince my mom not to hand out her "treats" to high school students. We like the good candy too.)

I say go trick or treating if you want. My mom said the same to me, but when college hits I'm gonna start doing it again. I like trick or treating its a chance to hang out with friends, roam around, and get free candy. Plus when I get older I'll be taking my kids out trick or treating so whats the difference now. I say your mom should stop being so mean to older kids just trying to have fun, and get away from the stresses of school and work. She should be nice and give you guys good candy too.
I think that your mom shpould let you make some of your own decisions, just as long as they are good decisions. And no I dont think that treat-or-tricking should stop after middle school, because its somewhat of a fun holiday. And its a time to go out with friends and get free candy. you should be able to go if you want to as long as your being safe and not going anywhere where your parents dont know.
I disagree with what your mother says. I believev that you are never too old to go trick-or-treating because for the simple fact that there is no age limit for it. You are a young as you feel, I could see if your going by yourself but your going with friends so what's her deal? As far as those little "treats" she calls herself giving away to us high schoolers, she needs to put them away because thats not halloween spirit! I totally agree with you when you say that enough is enough, she doesnt want you to go trick-or-treat but when it comes around to the dog, she has more spirit than the Easter Bunny. Go trick-or-treating is my advice to you.
I disagree with her ideas of trick or treating. I agree with you. I believe that you should be able to trick a treat as long as you want to while you are a teenager. Besides, adults consider teenagers as kids anyway, right? So how come, all of a sudden, when we want to do something fun, be accounted as adults? I don't think that that's fair. She is not the only person to believe that. Once when I went trick or treating and I was in the seventh grade, I got cursed out really badly by a homeowner because I was trick or treating. What made the situation so bad was I had my two younger cousins with me, who were toddlers at the time and I was taking them trick or treating. The candy was not for me. I don't think that adults should even have a say so on this particular subject.
First and foremost i am about to be 17 years old and i am still going trick-or-treating. She needs to understand that she is not going to be able to make your decisions all through life. Secondly, she needs to calm down with her beliefes, because she is will be mad if someone got tired of it and egged her house or etc. She put it on herself. I feel that if their gaurdians do not have a problem with it then neither should she.You should keep trick-or-treating. As for her, she should calm down.
Honestly I believe Trick or treating is very juvenile. I believe that after a certain age it's no longer an option, and in my personal opinion it shows adolescence. I’m confused as to what type of pleasure a teenager can get from going door to door asking for candy? I absolutely agrees with Mrs. Atkinson views on trick or treating, after a while it becomes pretty old, I mean it's like still believing in Easter and expecting an Easter basket. In my opinion trick or treating should stop after elementary school, it's a very childish and juvenile thing to do, so it should be practiced by such. Also the high school treats are hilarious!
I think that your mothers view of trick-or-treating are abit extreme! I believe that a person should be able to do things that remind them of their childhood as long as they aren't hurting anyone. Although i myself don't partake in the festivities involving halloween, i do enjoy eating cany and other sweets as well. All i can say is that Mrs Atkinson should treat each trick-or-treater the same!
I say don't go if you want candy that bad go to a supermarket and get a bag of mixed candy invite your friends over and enjoy a scarey movie. And as for your mother I am glad she does that cause where I live if you look to old for trick or treating my friends and I chase you down the street or throw pop on you.
i agree with destiny. Your mother should let you make your own decisions to an extent. As long as you go with some friends because you should never be out that late at night by yourself, there are too many perverts and petifiles out there. Halloween is a time to go out and enjoy yourself. I think you should go have fun.
i am commenting on Sarahs blog I do believe that young adults can go out trick-or-treating if they want to. Parents shouldn't have that much of a say so in want their child does on a fun candy giving holiday. Just as long as their child goes out and does the right thing and not the wrong thing.
I would believe that it's alright to go trick or treating at any age. I would also believe that your mom says it's immature or you're too old to go trick or treating but to me she's using your dog to trick or treat for herself, perhaps? Maybe she doesn't want to admit that she still loves halloween because of what other adults would think of her. I'd say anybody of any age who trick or treats is a fun, out-going and fun to be around person and I wouldn't judge them. I mean...everyone loves candy! (even ADULTS!) So, I don't think you're too old for Halloween, so go out and have fun, and don't feel bad or guilty about it! Besides, did they ever say Halloween was a KIDS ONLY Holiday? No! Besides, I consider us teenagers still in the "kid" category until we graduate from high school or go off on our own. Geez, even after I go off on my own I'll still consider myself a kid because there's so much more to learn. Stay a kid while you're still young! You'll regret it later!
Well i believe that it is a certain age that you should stop collecting candy on halloween. But if your a certaun height, and you can get away with it then i say by all means go out and trick-or-treat. And to Mrs Atkinsons "treats" I really don't think thats cool towards high school students. Were basically kids to just in a higher grade.
I agree with both Sarah's and Destiny's blog. I believe that you should be aloud to go trick-or-treating no matter how old you are or what grade you're in. As long as your having fun and not getting into trouble, I say that its okay.
I do believe that trick or treating should stop in high school, but I mean generally, if you're still into it that's fine. But far as the treatment that your mother displays on poeple who still want to have fun, is highly uncalled for. I mean no disrespect but that's kind of a cruel point of passing out taco sauce because of your own personal belief of something.
I am commenting on Sarah's response to the blog. I totally agree with Sarah. We should not be turned away because we are older. We should be entitled to the same things as other kids. WE ARE STILL KIDS!
yes i would continue to trick-or-treat if i can pull it off. I would continue because who doesnt want free candy? her fview of trick-or-treating is dumb. She shouldnt worry about doing it cause its not for her. Just because she wouldnt want to do it after a certain grade or age that doesnt mean you should stop. Your mother should treat everyone as equals and give everyone candy. You should go trick-or-treatin as long as they have costumes that fits you.
I would have to agree with jelicia with this as well. She should treat everyone the same no matter the age. its not like their 20 coming to your door asking you for candy. But have a heart let kids be kids, no matter the age.
I agree with what Sarah said. You should continue to go trick-or-treating. Your mother should also stop thinking about the stresses of work and maybe that will keep her in a better mood. Life is to short not to live it to the fullest.

I agree with Destiny, your becoming an adult you should be able decide what you want to do. Go trick or treating its your life live it.
Sorry to say it, but, I agree with your mother. After middle school you are to old to trick-or-treat. You should have enough consideration to save the treats for the younger kids. If I was an adult I would probably use the same tactics that she uses. I especially love the idea of the ments with ACT prep questions on them. Its my personal favorite.
I agree with Mrs. Atkinson. Continue to do the same things you do for Holloween. I find it very intelligent and quite funny.
I say that trick or treating is for all ages. I mean the way I look at it, it's just like any other holiday. Like on Christmas everyone gets presents no matter what the age, so what's the difference if you go trick or treating. And as far as your mom I believe that she should treat everyone the same.
Although my and Kelby's opinion is not at all the same, i in some way agree with him. Because i understand where he is coming from and what he means i also think that there is an age limit to things of that stature!
