Gas Price Jacking

Remember to answer all Blogger questions in a well thought out paragraph. You will be penalized for poorly constructed answers.

I drive 70 miles round trip a day to work. Gas prices are a big issue in my life. Last Friday morning, gasoline was $3.76 a gallon. After I got off work it was $3.89 a gallon. I was listening to the news and the news stated that the price jump was due to the speculation that hurricane Ike was going to damage oil producing facilities. By the time I got home from work, I decided to get gas even though I had half a tank. I normally do not buy gas on weekends because it costs more. My usual fill-up days are Monday and Thursday. My daughter and I usually go out to dinner on Friday. I picked up my daughter and told her that I needed to buy gas before we went to the restaurant. The first gas station I past was selling gas for $4.20 a gallon. This was nearly a jump of 30 cents a gallon just from the time I left work. I went to the next gas station. this gas station was selling gas for $3.78 a gallon. It was not even civilized at this gas station. People were fighting with each other to get a place at the pump, so I left and went to the next gas station. I filled up my car for $3.89 a gallon. There was no line when I pulled to the pump at this station. However, when I finished filling up, people were starting to line up. Saturday morning I noticed that the gas prices at every station were well over $4.00 a gallon. Hurricane Ike did not do the damage it was supposed to this weekend and by this morning, gas prices fell back to the pre-weekend prices. Do you feel it was necessary for the oil companies to raise wholesale gas prices before the hurricane hit and actually damaged the oil facilities (this is called speculation)? Answer in a well though-out paragraph with reasons.

I don't believe it is right for us to pay extra for damaging oil production sites. In America today we have more than enough oil to go around but it is never used. People shouldn't also argue about gas prices since they cannot be changed. We shouldn't have to pay for damaging oil we don't even use is what I think. The government is just selfish and sees the opportunity to get more funds for themselves.

No I dont feel that it is necessary for the oil companies because they obviously are taking advantage of the Hurricane Ike situations because they know that people are going to be leaving down from down south heading north until the Hurricane breaks.

Umm I feel that the gas companies are probably rasing the prices to cover for any future loses the Hurricane might create, so I feel the gas companies are making the right decision for themselves. But I feel that the prices are getting kind of ridiculus and I feel that the companies should find another way to cover future loses rather then making their custiomers suffer.

I feel they shouldnt have raised the prices. how would they have knew the hurricane would hit the oil factories? I think bush is trying to get more money before he gets kicked out of office.

No i feel that they shouldnt have raised the prices.they should have raised the prices when the actual hurricane hit. Seeing that it didnt the gas station basicall jipped people for the weekend.

No, they should not have raised the gas prices because oil companies took advantage of the fact that people were leaving to flee from the hurricane. Thus making it seem like an advantage raising prices on gas. This was not a fair situation because usually after a hurricane the prices are raised on gas. This was a mindset of pure greed.

No! I think that the actions of the gasoline companies this weekend were out of order. To raise the prices of gas due to a posible disaster is very unusual and unfair to everyone who buys gas.

I feel that it is nessecary for oil compaines to raise thier prices when a storm hits.I say this because they have to make a profit on the oil. Also as a result of them stopping production it raises the value of oil.

I do not believe that raising gas prices was necessary. Everyone's mind set was on leaving. They were not thinking about the gas prices or how much money they need to grab so more than likely the just grabed enough money to get by. No one was prepared for that situation therefore i believe what they did was wrong.

I think that it was really unnessary for the oil companies to be raising prices because that is going to make people not want to drive. And some gas statons are just raising prices because their trying to make an easy buck or an unhonest dollar. The goverment is being really unfair and selfish by rasing gas prices most Americans have to deal with taxes now they have to deal with these high gas prices. they just need to lower these gas prices and keep them low.

No, it's not right for oil companies to raise gas prices for an expecting hurricane. What if the hurricane doesnt come? Then people would have paid extra money for nothing. It doesnt make sense for gas prices to be high. The oil companies should just do their job and find more oil. Stop raising gas prices.

I believe that it is not necessary for the oil companies to raise gas the way the did before the hurricane. Even though it wasn't necessary the oil companies took advantage of the situation knowing that Houston is the 4th largest city in the U.S. while people were leaving they(oil companies)were still trying to figure out ways to make money and they did they raised gas prices very mean but smart.

No I believe it was unnecessary for the Gas stations to raise prices, especially so much. I heard on the news that gas prices were as high as $6.00 a gallon in the Lansing area. I believe after the hurricane hit, only if it did damage to the oil refineries should it have been raised. In the tough economy that we live in families need to save every penny they can, and in my opinion the gas companies are getting over.

I don't believe that it was right for them to raise gas prices before the hurricane. They probrobaly raised them early thinking that it would be a supply on demand issue. We have been having gas price problems ever since September 11th. This is utterly ridiculous. I don't think that a hurricane has anything to do with gas prices.

No, I dont feel that speculation is right. How is it fair to raise gas prices before a storm comes? That is just a way for oil companies to get over on people. It is not right to over charge people just because you can. The higher the gas prices get the less people will drive. That means less money for oil companies.

It is not necessary for the price of gas to go up if nothing happen to the oil yet. Nobody can tell the future so how they know what was going to happen to the oil. It didnt even do much damage to it so i feel that was a bad judgement.

no, its not right for oil companies to raise there prices for the weekend. i believe the reason they do this because they know that people do more driving on the weekend then the weekday. in then it doesn't have nothing to do with the hurricane so they are giving false information.l

It is not neccessary to raise gas prices before the storm because the people doesn't know if the storm will cause severe damage. If the storm does not cause damage the oil company will gain a large profit from the citizen. The citizens mind should be set on leaving not concerned about gas prices.
